The Twilight Saga is amazing. I've read the books numerous times and love reading them again. I've never given my total opinion on the books before so I'll do so now.
Basic Gist Of Twilight: Bella (human) falls in love with Edward (vampire).
Sounds corny doesn't it? Yeah thats what I thought at first too. You see, I'm a VERY picky reader. If a book doesn't grab my attention from the first three chapters I would rather not even bother reading the rest...no matter how good the reviews are. In the summer of 2008 just weeks before Breaking Dawn was released, I still had never read the books and cared nothing for them, let alone, wanting to read them. There was no willpower to read these books.
At the camp that I worked at Lake Ann Camp (www.lakeanncamp.com) all the girls there seemed to be reading the vampire love stories but I still didn't care to read them, no matter how many of them tried to convince me that it would be worth reading. I was DETERMINED that there was no way I was going to EVER like or love these books, and to keep from doing that I decided that I wasn't even going to read them.
I got home from camp in mid-July and it was while I was at my friends house and she had just finished reading Twilight. You see, my best friend and I are like twins, there's RARELY something to disagree on. She told me I HAD to read them...and when she says a book is good...well, how can I NOT read it??
So I decided that she liked the book enough that I was probably going to like it too so I figured that buying it would probably be the best idea. So I headed to Schulers books with my sister whose obsessed with anime and wanted to go buy some. It was there that I picked up Twilight on a whim. I'll never regret that decision.
I had Twilight read and finished in a matter of three days. As soon as I finished Twilight I just knew I HAD to get New Moon.
Gist Of New Moon: Edward (vampire) leaves Bella (human) for what seems to be no reason. Bella (human) becomes friends with Jacob (Tribe Member). But does Edward come back? Does Bella leave everything to go to be with Edward? Does Bella decide she wants nothing to do with Edward and chooses to be with Jacob instead?? You'll have to read the book to find out.
New Moon was a heart-wrenching book for me to read. After all, Edwards break-up with Bella made me feel an awful lot like my ex-boyfriend was breaking up with me all over again. I had to put the book down after chapter three for a whole day. I was hurting with so much raw emotions. When I'd read Twilight I felt like I WAS Bella and I LOVED Edward. Yes I too was one of those crazy girls who were in love with a fictional character. But you see, Edward had it all. And to just leave her in New Moon....??? It didn't make sense.
When I'd gotten the resolve to pick the book back up I was maddened at her budding friendship with Jacob. She wasn't supposed to be with Jacob, she was supposed to be with Edward. I wanted to throw my book at the wall many a time. It was around this time the Breaking Dawn released, I hadn't even gotten to that point in the series to know, let alone care that the book was coming out.
Once the book got to chapter eighteen I was in love with the series again. The end made my heart melt of all the bitterness I'd had for it the first two thirds of the book. As soon as I finished New Moon after a weeks worth of reading, I knew I wanted to read Eclipse just as bad.
Gist Of Eclipse: Edward's (vampire) back and Bella (human) seems to act as though nothing ever truly happened. Jacob (werewolf) hates Edward for coming back because he loves Bella. Victoria (bad vampire) is out for revenge against Edward and wants to kill Bella. What happens at the end?? You'll have to read it for yourself.
Eclipse was pretty good for the most part, Bella and Alice's steadily growing friendship had me smiling. Alice is the perfect best friend. And reminds me of a combination of my best friends. Alice the care-free vampire sister of Edward. Rosalie's explaining why she disliked Bella so much still made me hate her character, but I understood her a lot better. To which I am thankful about.
There was one scene however in Eclipse that infuriated me to the point of wanting to rip the pages from the book. Isn't it amazing how you can identify with characters in a fictional book so much so that you want to hurt some and personally know others?? Well thats how I felt about these books. Bella was me. Edward was my knight in shining armor. Alice was my best friend. And the rest of the Cullen's were my family. Jacob at this point was strattling the very fine line between best male friend and enemy.
In the scene that I'm referencing Edward and Bella are in the mountains and Jacob has to lay in a sleeping bag with Bella (who is bundled up from head to toe) because he is burning heat (because he's a werewolf) and she's freezing (because its snowing and there in the mountains, oh and did I mention, 'cause she's human). Well anyways, in this scene Edward is stuck listening to all of Jacob's thoughts about Bella while he holds her close and Edward is forced to sit as far away from her as he can inside the tent. Now I'm not a genius, but I know that my boyfriend would be very jealous and infuriated in this same situation. True, Edward loves her and would rather have her stay warm than freeze, but that conversation between Edward and Jacob is like one of dominance. Edward vs. Jacob. Not that that wasn't obvious in New Moon and all throughout Eclipse thus far, but it seemed to give a whole new meaning to it. I wanted to cry for Edward. This just wasn't fair to him. Ugh, but enough about that, read it and you'll understand.
Once I'd finished Eclipse I immediately went out and got Breaking Dawn.
Gist Of Breaking Dawn: Edward (vampire) marries Bella (still human) and Jacob (werewolf) runs away. There's a lot more to the description than this but I don't want to give too much away if you haven't read it. If you have, well then you obviously know what happens in the story.
Breaking Dawn is my favorite in the series. I only ever heard two things about this book just before I read it and they were 1) Edward and Bella get married and 2) They have a baby. Edward and Bella's wedding was small and very nice. In the Cullen's house of course. Their baby they have exactly one month after their honeymoon. The conception of a half-vampire-half-human (according to Stephenie Meyer) makes them grow rapidly to reach the adulthood and permanence of their life soon. Most mothers (in fact none have) survived the birth.
Edward's determination to save Bella is incredible. Once the baby is born Renesmee Carlie Cullen. (first and middle names are a cute combination of both mothers names for the first and both fathers for the second. Genius by Stephenie Meyer in naming her.) The plot thickens when a mistaken vampire sees Nessie (as she's nicknamed) in the forest with her parents hunting and reports to the volturie about creating a vampire child, which had been banned because of their unpredictability. The Cullen's are forced to call on all of their vampire friends to come and witness that Renesmee is not a threat and wouldn't hurt anyone. The end of the book is amazing and you end of discovering why Edward has never been able to read Bella's thoughts. And the epilogue of this book is amazing and I love it.
Well once I finished this book, I'll be honest I was OBSESSED with the series. I went on HotTopic.com created an account. Went to amazon.com and created an account and got a whole ton of Twilight merchandise. I got a shirt, a bag, a key chain, the "Complete Illustrated Movie Companion" (which you can also find on Amazon.com and also bought the soundtrack. Later my mom bought me the score also.
I took quiz after quiz after quiz each one saying that I was a Twihard. I'd been happily bitten by Twilight. Not until the movie came out did I realize just how big this Twilight thing was becoming. Its amazing the things that people do. Including the fact that women are now wearing panties that say "Team Taylor" (for Taylor Laughtner who plays Jacob) and "Team Rob" (for Robert Pattinson who plays Edward). I however am proud to say that I own neither of those. :)
Time has passed and I have for the most part passed out of my Twilight phase but I still love them and probably will for awhile. If you haven't read Twilight I highly suggest that you do. If you have, do you think the Twilight stuff have gone slightly (if not totally) out of control?
Well until my next ramble,
Nicole Louise
